↘ The brief
The Maine Medical Center Portland Campus expansion is a major healthcare project in Portland, Maine, designed to provide state-of-the-art clinical facilities while meeting the demanding performance requirements of a modern healthcare environment. Designed by NBBJ, the project incorporates Equitone fiber cement façade panels as part of its ventilated rainscreen enclosure system.
As part of the Equitone technical team, project responsibilities focused on supporting successful implementation of the façade system through technical review, shop drawing coordination, and application of manufacturer design and performance requirements throughout the preconstruction process.
↘ The approach
Working as part of the Equitone technical team, responsibilities included reviewing façade shop drawings prepared by the specialty contractor to verify compliance with manufacturer standards, fabrication requirements, and ventilated cavity wall design principles. Technical reviews addressed panel layouts, attachment systems, support framing, movement joints, ventilation, and integration with adjacent building enclosure assemblies.
Close coordination with the façade contractor, project team, and internal engineering resources helped resolve technical questions, refine detailing where necessary, and ensure that the Equitone façade material could be fabricated and installed in accordance with manufacturer requirements and project objectives.

Technical review and coordination supported the successful translation of the design intent into fabrication-ready documentation. By aligning manufacturer requirements with project-specific detailing, the review process helped facilitate efficient fabrication, coordinated installation, and long-term façade performance.
